The Timber Collection - 2011

History

At a time when most companies were doing their best to re-invent styles of the past, DRIFT was creating a new approach all-together. In 2011 the Timber Collection broke the mold. The patented steel-core temple allowed the use of reclaimed woods, something never before possible in eyewear, and one of the many "firsts" for the company.(See CoolHunting)

Development

The brand quickly outgrew it's garage studio and the team of four setup shop in Chicago's burgeoning, West Loop. The necessity to produce better quality, control costs, and experiment with new concepts spurred development. We sourced machines, built ones we couldn't find, and created a manufacturing process from the ground up - the first boutique eyewear factory in the U.S. in over 60 years.

Pushing the Envelope

Never content to settle with the status quo, DRIFT developed and produced a custom riveted front hinge. This functional piece is often mimicked in lesser quality product(notice the two metal dots in each corner). This created a nearly indestructible bond between the temples and frame front.

Sought After

With 132 boutique retailers in seven countries, DRIFT became a stalwart of independent optical stores. Popular Limited Editions like the Delta Blues and the Barnwood were quick to sell out, and provided our accounts with a product that could not be duplicated by the likes of a Luxottica or Warby Parker.
